While many children are very outgoing, others are not. It is okay if your child is shy. You should pay attention, however, if you child is painfully shy. Children enjoy feeling independent, so assigning them tasks to do as you tidy up can make them feel helpful and confident. Have your child help you unload the dishwasher. When you fold laundry, have your child sort through the socks. The tasks will help them feel as though they are being independent, while giving you a hand.

It is important that you get your child to participate in after-school activities, such as sports. Social or sporting activities help your child develop social skills and they can make new friends. Make sure your children have reflective materials on their backpacks or coats if they walk to school. This will make your child more visible to drivers and crossing guards, especially in the early morning hours.

Remember that the disciplinary process is about teaching your child, not hurting them. Using this type of language can be detrimental to his behavior. You should always use encouraging language so that it helps make his behavior better.

Keep a routine in your home, your family will know what they are expected to do. Having a schedule gives the child boundaries and allows the him to prepare for each part of the day.

By removing all junk food from your house, you are encouraging healthy eating. If candy, chips and cookies are not readily available, your child will probably not ask for them as often. Instead of having junk food around constantly, only make it available on special occasions.

Friends that your child associates with may bring some bad habits, such as inappropriate language, into their social time. As you catch him using this inappropriate language, pull him aside and talk to him about how this isn?t acceptable in the home. Always pull your child into a quiet place for correction, so that you won?t embarrass or humiliate him around his peers.

Help your child to learn organization by giving him specific homes for all of his things. Without a proper designation scheme, toys can be strewn all over your home. If you show the child how to properly put away belongings, it will become a habit.

Avoid smoking in your home. Actually, maybe you could quit completely! Breathing secondhand smoke can be just as harmful as smoking. Children who are exposed to second-hand smoke on a regular basis are at greater risk for developing respiratory illnesses, asthma and cancer.

Although taking care of your children may be your primary focus, it is important to take care of your needs as well. Find time every day to relax and re-energize, even if it?s only for a few minutes. You will feel better, and your children will be happier as a result.

If you are bringing a second child into the world, you?ll often have to prioritize one child, especially while the second child is still a baby. More often than not, the newborn will receive most of the attention. If you are expecting this challenge and understanding that it is normal, you will avoid yourself a lot of guilt.
