Swimming pools are an enjoyable place to be for everybody, however the enjoyment can quickly end without the right safety precautions, as the statistics discussing deaths by the pool each year will show. Many people have pools as a way to cool down on those hot days, without thinking about the dangers associated with them for their family. Pools are great and there is no reason not to get one, however make sure your entire family knows how to act safely around them.

Make sure nobody is swimming alone. For families you should make sure your children know they have to be with somebody else if they want to swim. In ground pools pose a greater danger because it is easy to simply trip and fall without meaning to. With this in mind it is wise to fence in your pool and make sure your children never play around it on their own.

There should be a no running rule around the pool and you should never let your kids mess around with bikes or trikes anywhere near the pool.

If you have a pool that is above ground you can simply use a ladder that can be moved up and out of reach of your children. Just be sure the ladder is properly installed and is never in need of repair. For above ground pools make sure nobody plays around on the lip, no walking on it and no sitting on it, it doesn?t take much for somebody to slip on a wet surface and the fall can be very dangerous.

You will also have to make sure you keep the pool properly maintained, in relevance to the pumps, filters and other moving parts. Considering that pools blend electric mechanics with water, the danger is clear.

You need also be careful with the chemicals and products you use for the pools upkeep, such as chlorine, make sure it is kept in a safe place and out of reach of your kids.

Anybody who already has a swimming pool will be aware of the maintenance that it requires. Pools that go into disrepair can become infested with insects and mosquitoes that can carry any number of diseases.

You may think this is blowing everything out of proportion and is simple scare mongering, however believe me when I tell you it isn?t. Pools are amazing things to own on those long hot sunny days, however the fun can quickly sour if you don?t look after them properly and enforce the right safety precautions.
