?. 1 -LAKH-CR SCAM? Swami Agnivesh seeks probe into role of SC-appointed CEC

Activist Swami Agnivesh has accused the Haryana government of illegally diverting precious land parcels in the state, particularly in the Aravalli Plantation zone, to real estate developer DLF, terming it the ?Rs-one-lakh-crore scam?.

Swami, founder of Bandhua Mukti Morcha (BMM), said the organisation had filed an Interlocutory Application (IA) before the Forest Bench of Supreme Court against the same last year.

?It is mind boggling to see the level of corruption in this land scam which is estimated to be over (rupees) one lakh crore,? Swami said while addressing a press conference on Friday.

He said ?the scam? should be investigated at the highest level. ?A high-powered special investigation team should be set up and everybody, including Robert Vadra should be investigated,? he added. Swami also demanded investigation into the role of a central empowered committee (CEC) appointed by the Supreme Court.

In an environmental issue of national importance, the CEC had made recommendations contrary to law in favour of a leisure project being developed by DLF, he said. According to Swami, the CEC has not only recommended the destruction of the Aravalli plantation in Wazirabad, Gurgaon, but contrary to the orders of the SC, it even ignored to treat the Aravalli Plantation as a forest.

?The CEC also recommended cancellation of a defence project of national interest by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) in Badkal, Faridabad,? he said. The 350-acre area in Wazirabad was earlier acquired by HSIDC and HUDA for the purpose of a Recreation and Leisure Project in Gurgaon. The land parcel belonged to Gram Panchayat and was acquired at public expense for public purpose.
