New music review: Come Home to Mama, Martha Wainwright ...
Sometimes an album is so blunt and uncompromising in its personal content that you feel a bit like a voyeur just for hearing it.
This can result in the uncomfortable listener filing it away for good, hoping the artist will take his or her problems to a therapist next time. But a gifted singer-songwriter will find the universal and the humourous in the bleakest moments, making the entire experience a healing one for both performer and audience.
With her fourth album (only her third containing original material), Martha Wainwright makes the most effective use of her gifts: the lyrically confessional and brutally frank Come Home to Mama is a deeply moving album that transcends one person?s upheaval.
Two almost simultaneous life-changing events ? the birth of her son, Arcangelo, and the death of her mother, Kate McGarrigle ? provide the emotional backdrop here. The eerily beautiful Proserpina, McGarrigle?s last composition, is the disc?s centerpiece, while the languid All Your Clothes and the bass-driven, club-ish I Wanna Make an Arrest (on which Wainwright wails like Yoko Ono) also confront loss.
How much of it is fodder for gossip? What are we to make of lines like ?My marriage is failing, but I keep trying all the time,? in All Your Clothes, or ?My husband?s been lyin? and cheatin?/ I turned my cheek and reason/ I change my tune every day,? from the quite beautiful Everything Wrong, in which the singer confesses her fears to her child, all the while trying to play the protector?
And what about the zinger from the catchy, emotionally ambivalent Can You Believe It (?I really like the makeup sex/ It?s the only kind I ever get?)? That self-deprecating, darkly funny line says more about tension in a relationship than most writers can get into an entire song?
Wainwright has said she likes to put a twist in her autobiographical material (see the interview accompanying this review), so the literal truth of such lyrics probably shouldn?t be the focus. And when the words have the kind of wit and resonance these do, the best strategy is to look for yourself in them.
Musically, the move toward a more electro-pop sound, with keyboards dominating the arrangements instead of guitars, is an inspired one. Producer Yuka Honda has made many wise choices in these 10 tracks. Among the more arresting touches are the way she frames opener I Am Sorry with a bronto backbeat and encourages Wainwright to find her inner Kate Bush in the vocal approach, the layering of keys over a simple chord progression in the gloomy Leave Behind and the cartoonish tension that ignites the macabre Four Black Sheep.
With Come Home to Mama, Wainwright has turned the confessional album, too often something to be dreaded, into a place where we can find a bit of comfort and catharsis.

Another huge reason is that aerobic exercise helps strengthen the heart and lungs so when you?re climbing the stairs or walking 4 blocks with a large package you?re not winded so easily.
?Thank goodness I exercise!? I thought after carrying a small refrigerator up the stairs and lifting it over my head while walking up my loft ladder.
But there are some of us who want to lose the weight along with firming those curves.
I always recommend my personal training clients to do some aerobic exercise for weight loss outside of their training sessions with me to help them move forward and keep them focused and motivated on their journey.
One of the major questions I am asked as a personal trainer for over 12 years is what is the best aerobic exercise for weight loss?
I can only apply what I teach and instill in my clients for myself on my personal fitness and health journey
My answer will never change. The best aerobic exercise for weight loss is something that you think is enjoyable and doable. If you don?t know what that is you want to explore a little. Do you think walking for exercise and weight loss is something that is doable? How about dancing? Are you curious about pole dancing? How about swimming or an exercise bike for weight loss?Personally, it?s time for me to explore different modalities of aerobic exercise for weight loss and I?m leaning toward dance. I remember how dancing was so much fun for me. I love Hip Hop, Jazz and I especially love House. It was effective aerobic exercise for weight loss because I didn?t see it as exercise really. It was just really fun.
I can only follow and apply what I teach my clients. Start reframing what exercise is for you from exercise is all about the struggle, strain, and hard work to exercise is fun, challenging but achievable, and worthwhile!

The other part of the answer to this question is that you want to start slowly and choose a non-impact aerobic exercise for weight loss. I do not suggest you start jogging or running if you haven?t moved your body in a very long time.
You want to think about your long term plan for your body and for your health. Joint health is an important factor to think about. I would choose forms of exercise that is non-impact or low impact to save those knees, hips, ankles and back of yours.
You can get an amazing high intensity workout without having to jump up and down and run around or sprint round in circles.
What kind of aerobic exercise for weight loss can you do?
First and foremost I emphasize walking for exercise and weight loss. It?s the least expensive and most practical form of aerobic exercise for weight loss available. Make sure your shoes are comfortable. And a great way to motivate yourself is invest in a pedometer.
A good pedometer will track your steps for the day and even the accumulation of steps for the week. It will even give you caloric expenditure from your steps although it?s important to focus on walking for exercise and weight loss
This is an exceptional brand and model that I use personally because it?s durable and accurate.
Another great aerobic exercise for weight loss is using an exercise bike for weight loss! I love to switch up my workouts using the bike. Having an aerobic bike for weight loss is brilliant when the sun is not shining and when winter sets in so biking outdoors is not a wise choice.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Spinning because it is a very high intensity cardio workout without the high impact. Some of my clients love to Spin. I do too. There is something about being in a room-filled with sweaty peeps with fun club music Spinning your heart out and melting the fat!
Swimming is also a great aerobic exercise for weight loss plus it helps those with painful joint problems.
The last question that I?m sure some of you may have is what about an exercise schedule for weight loss? How frequent should I exercise and when?
Since most of you are just starting off I would plan an exercise schedule for weight loss where you?re exercising 3-5 days a week. You want to schedule the time as part of your day. Most of us will pull the ?Just Too Busy? card. But most of us will find the time to do something that we really want like go on Facebook for 3 hours or watch TV for the other 3 hours of the time that we supposedly don?t have.
If you truly can?t bite into your online time or TV time or work time then I guess you?ll have to wake-up a few hours earlier or go to bed a few hours later.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has teamed up with the U.S. Black Chamber to help minority-owned small businesses gain access to opportunities that will lead to federal contracts. That includes networking with larger businesses and in-person meetings.
?During several scheduled forums, small businesses will learn how to market themselves to the federal government and go after federal contracting opportunities,? reports Black Enterprise. ?The forum also will offer help with strategic alliances, joint venture opportunities, and mentor-protege arrangements within the [SBA?s 8(a) Business Development program].?
The two organizations kicked off their partnership with an event on October 10 at the Carnegie Library in Washington DC, the?National 8(a) Training, Business Matchmaking and Awards Ceremony.

MIAMI (AP) ? The CEO of a construction firm says officials don't yet know why a parking garage it was building collapsed, killing at least three people.
Bill Byrne is the president and chief executive officer of Ajax Building Corp. He said during a news conference Thursday that the company is working with authorities to learn more about what happened.
Byrne says the three men who died in the collapse worked for subcontractors of Ajax.
Those men have been identified by authorities as 53-year-old Samuel Perez; 48-year-old Carlos Hurtado de Mendoza; and Jose Calderon.
The five-story garage at Miami Dade College collapsed Wednesday, injuring several people and leaving some trapped beneath piles of twisted steel and crumbled concrete.
